absences

If your child is absent for any reason, call 936-5451 each day of the absence before 9:00 a.m. with the reason for the absence.

Campus Supervision and Attendance

  • Arrival: Students should not be on campus before 8:00 a.m. without a guardian. Playground supervision is available from 8:00–8:15 a.m..
  • After-School Plans: All arrangements should be made before coming to school to minimize classroom interruptions. Primary students may not play on the apparatus or wait on campus for older siblings; they must wait with a parent at the front of the school or Chaparral Park.
  • Authorized Pick-up: Only persons listed as Emergency Contacts may pick up students.
  • Tardies & Early Dismissal: Students arriving after the bell are marked "Tardy". For early pick-up, notify the teacher in advance and sign your child out at the front office. Only authorized emergency contacts may pick up students.
  • Medical Appointments: Provide a doctor’s note upon return for medical-related absences or tardies.

campus activity

Monitor small children and wait in front of the school or at Chaparral Park for dismissal. All guests must check in with the front office before coming on to campus during school hours.  No animals/pets allowed on campus unless they are a documented service animal.

dress code and Conduct

  • Dress Code: Clothing must not be unsafe, disruptive, obscene, profane, or provocative. Attire advocating illegal substances or gang affiliation is prohibited.
  • On campus conduct: All staff, students and visitors should engage in respectful and courteous behavior while on campus. 

forgotten items

Please help your child be responsible by coming to school prepared with everything they need for the day (homework, lunch, musical instrument, etc.). We cannot interrupt the classrooms to  deliver forgotten items or inform students of deliveries. Please label jackets, lunchboxes, and other items. 

lunch and Personal Items

Primary Lunch starts at 11:35am

Upper Lunch starts at 12:16pm

  • Deposit funds online at https://linqconnect.com/main or via the Parent Portal at my.iusd.org.
  • Lunch Drop off: Place "forgotten" lunches  labeled with student name and grade on the cart outside the front office prior to the lunch period. Parents may not enter the lunch area to hand-deliver items. If a student does not have lunch, a school lunch will be provided.
  • Lost & Found: Label all items. The bin is near the cafeteria and may be checked before or after school.

Health and Wellness 

  • Illness: Students must be fever-free for 24 hours before returning to school. Keep children home if they show signs of illness like coughs, sore throats, or headaches.
  • Medication: Never send a child to school carrying medication. Required forms must be filed with the health office for any medication dispensed during the day. 
  • Medical Needs: Doctor’s orders for restrictions, or other needs must be on file before a student attends class.
  • Mental Health: Short-term counseling and community resource linkages are available through IUSD. Contact our counselor or administrator for more information.

To stay informed of school events, parents should regularly read:

  • Principal’s weekly newsletter is sent each Friday via email
  • Teacher emails and newsletters
  • PTA newsletters and flyers sent out weekly
  • Join Parent Square to translate & organize all school communication
  • Contact teachers directly via their email.

traffic and Safety

  • No left turns into the school driveway. Use the U-turn at Rimrock (top of Sundance Dr.).
  • Drop off along Sundance Drive in loading zones.  Do not leave vehicles unattended in loading zones or block traffic.
  • The parking lot is for staff parking only. There are no open parking spots during school hours. Please park along Sundance in designated parking areas only.
  • Please use the crosswalk on Sundance Dr./Turtle Rock Dr. No jaywalking, please!
  • No animals, pets, skateboards, scooters or ebikes are allowed on campus.

Visitors/volunteers

Visitors & Volunteers: All visitors must check in at the office for an ID badge. Volunteers must complete an annual online application and show their Driver’s License in the office.

Technology and AI Policy

  • Cell phones and smartwatches must be completely turned off and kept in backpacks during school hours, including recess and lunch.
  • Use of devices for social media, photos, or recordings without permission is prohibited. Violations may result in device confiscation.
  • Students must get prior teacher approval before using AI tools for any schoolwork. Use of AI without approval or proper attribution is a violation of the academic honesty policy. https://iusd.org/about/departments/education-services/artificial-intelligence-ai-iusd
